Life Teen Core Team

"As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God's varied grace." 1 Peter 4:10

Above all, let your love for one another be intense, because love covers a multitude of sins. Be hospitable to one another without complaining. As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God's varied grace. Whoever preaches, let it be with the words of God; whoever serves, let it be with the strength that God supplies, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 4:8-11

Serving on the Life Teen Core Team ministry is a calling. It's a desire in your heart to help lead teens closer to Christ. Here's a little taste of what you can expect:

  1. It's going to be messy. We mean this figuratively and literally. You're choosing to walk with teens through some tough years, and the relationships that develop won't end with graduation. There will be tough times, but you have to always remember you can't fix everything. The literally messy part comes in the form of pudding fights, shaving cream wars, and water balloon fights!
  2. It's going to be chaotic. Sure you'll start with a plan, but trust us when we say things rarely go according to plan. Schedules run longer; buses break down; technology won't work. If you can adapt, you'll do just fine!
  3. You're going to grow in your faith. You can't give what you don't have. Sure, you've got to be able to teach the Catholic faith. (If you aren't sure what it is, you can easily read it all here.) However, it's more than just teaching, you have to help teens develop a relationship with Jesus. You'll constantly be growing in your relationship with Christ. If you open your heart to Him, youth ministry will take you to a whole new level.
  4. You'll learn to love more than you ever thought possible. You can't even begin to imagine the love you will witness and experience through serving in youth ministry.

We need Catholics from all walks of life and vocations who are willing to share their faith with teens.  Core members need to be 21 years of age or older. We ask that you be willing to commit to at least six months of service, which includes the following:

  • Core meetings on Thursdays from 7:30-9 pm
  • Life Nights on Sundays from 7 pm-10 pm with setup occurring Sunday afternoon as needed
  • Attend the 6 pm Sunday night Life Teen Mass
  • Plan for nights and retreats outside of Thursday evenings
  • Attend weekend retreats if available including our Fall retreat (second full weekend of Septermber) and the Diocesan Youth Conference (second weekend of March)
  • Complete Diocese of Charleston background checks and driving record check
  • Attend Virtus training

If you think Christ is calling you to serve, we invite you to join us at a Core Meeting and a Life Night.  Contact Joe Maggio for more information.
