Our New Vision

St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church is an inviting

community that is a beacon of Jesus Christ’s light,

making disciples who lead others to Him.

A Message from our Pastor,

Today I have the privilege to share with you a very important milestone in the life of our Parish: a new vision statement that captures the direction that God desires for us to go to support His mission.

So, what is His mission? Simply, it is the Great Commission.

Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you (Matthew 28:19-20).

Pope Francis (the latest Pope to do so!) has posed a real challenge for all of us. This challenge is called the “New Evangelization” which, at its heart, is the call for all to live out Jesus Christ's charge to His disciples in the Great Commission. The real challenge of this charge is that we find ourselves today with a great number of people who have either turned away from God and the Church or  do not feel they can have a    personal relationship with Him.

For the past year, my brother priests, deacons, staff, lay leaders and I have been deliberating on how we can best meet Jesus’ challenge to Go, Make, Baptize and Teach. With the power of prayer and discernment came the       decision to "go" and learn what others are doing in regards to Jesus' command. In this process, we discovered that our Parish is ripe for a renewed focus on discipleship and evangelization and that a new vision was in order.

I am excited to share with you today that new vision. In the new vision, we strive to meet the challenge of the Great Commission with a clearer understanding of what discipleship is and what the Church should do to further God's   Kingdom. I seek your prayerful support as we come together in unity to transform our culture to one of committed discipleship through evangelization, ongoing conversion and spiritual maturity, worship, ministry and community-based love and support.

For six years our parish has been guided by our prior vision statement, “Called by Christ, Growing in Faith, Serving with Love.” I believe it is time that we broaden our vision to promote discipleship in Christ with an apostolic passion to "bring" others to Him through the joyful sharing of the Gospel. Through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, our Parish desires to be a "beacon of Christ's light" that engages, strengthens, and teaches our community so that we Go, Make, Baptize and Teach.

In the Gospel this weekend, Jesus says, “Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father" (Matthew 5:16).

With this verse in mind, I am pleased to present St. Mary Magdalene’s new vision:

St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church is an inviting community that is a beacon of Jesus Christ’s light, making disciples who lead others to Him.

I continue to pray for each and every one of you, and I ask that you continue to pray for me, my brother priests, and all of us here at St. Mary Magdalene as we set out on this path. The fruits of this effort should be nothing short of amazing! God Bless You All!

Fr. Theo
