Christian Formation

St. Mary Magdalene’s Christian Formation Program continues the mission of Jesus Christ through catechetical ministry. It embraces the young members of our parish by providing an inclusive program that responds to the spiritual, intellectual, social and psychological needs of our youth. The Christian Formation Program assists parents in forming their children to be Disciples of Christ through bi-weekly classes and sacramental preparation. We rely on volunteer catechists to accompany our youth on their journey of faith and to nurture their personal relationship with Jesus. Children are placed in classes by their grade and age.  We offer classes for students in K5 through grade 11 and High school Confirmation and Introductory classes for grades 2 – 11.

What’s happening in Christian Formation…

New Year’s Greetings from the Office of Christian Formation!

This month (January) we are focusing on Unit 5 – Morality

In this unit, we learn that a disciple is a follower of Jesus who believes in him and lives by his teachings. We also learn that to follow him, we must live according to what Jesus taught his disciples in the Great Commandment and in the Beatitudes. We learn that our conscience helps us to know what is right and wrong and to know when we have sinned or been unjust. Sin is the result of humans turning away from God’s goodness. In the Sacrament of Reconciliation, God’s forgiveness is given through the Church to those who have sincere sorrow and confess their sins.

Jesus surprises us in many ways. He associates with sinners and the marginalized. He washed his disciples’ feet to show them (and us) how to serve and love one another. Jesus’ New Commandment is for all his disciples to love one another as he has loved us. Serving others is a way to serve God. In his parable of the Vine and the Branches, Jesus teaches us that we need to stay connected to him in order to have life. Prayer helps us to connect to Jesus. Prayer is an important part of deepening our friendship with God, and we can pray in many ways and at different times.

Don’t forget about the Family + Faith pages and the People of Faith for this unit.
