Kristin Johnson

Planning and Program Coordinator

Getting to Know Kristin

Tell us a little about yourself and your family.

My husband, Scott, and I have been  members of the parish since we moved from Florida to Simpsonville almost 20 years ago.  We have three girls in either college or high school and a new puppy (a miniature schnauzer). I was raised and practiced my faith as a Southern Baptist but joined the Church in 2001.

Tell us a little about your role as Planning and Program Coordinator.

I am excited to work part-time in a new role that focuses on creating opportunities for faith to flourish and that attempts to make connections between the many different offices and ministries in the parish. I spend time researching, brainstorming, discerning, planning and implementing programs that typically are focused in areas in which we do not have a current ministry or program. I especially hope to foster an ever-growing small group community.

What are some of your hobbies and interest?

If you know me or my family, then you most likely have seen me volunteering as the Vacation Bible School Director for our parish (16 years). Also, I serve on the Core Team of the Women’s Bible Study ministry. I love to read and enjoy taking exercise classes at the YMCA. I miss playing BUNCO – anyone want to start a group???

Staff RolePlanning and Programs Coordinator

This article is to highlight the key roles and responsibilities of the Planning & Programs Coordinator. Future articles will highlight the roles and responsibilities of other staff members.

With almost 2 decades of volunteer history with the parish, Kristin joined the staff in August 2017. In her role as Planning and Programs Coordinator, Kristin works part-time and reports to Michael McGarry, Director of Evangelization. With a passion for helping others grow in spiritual maturity, much of her time is spent in identifying new opportunities to engage parishioners as well as better developing current processes/programs for lifelong discipleship.

As administrator for Formed and facilitator of adult formation studies, her goal is to provide a variety of topics that promote an encounter with Christ.  She serves on the Pastor's Leadership Team (PLT) which supports the pastor in execution of everyday operations and serves as a sounding board to concerns and new ideas for the pastor's consideration.  Two challenges to her work are the diminishing relevance of the Church to the youth and young adults and the busyness of parents who struggle to keep pace with the spiritual, academic, social, and extracurricular activities of their children.  However, Kristin works at bridging the gap between the secular world and the spiritual home that the Church can be for everyone with programs that connect people with God, the Church and each other. She loves to brainstorm, is not afraid to try new things, is excited to welcome newcomers to the Parish, and likes to help folks make connections to ministry in the parish.
