Listen to His Voice

Clergy Corner by Fr. Theo

Today is the Good Shepherd Sunday. In the Gospel, the Lord speaks of himself as a shepherd whose sheep follow him because they recognize his voice.

The challenge facing every follower of Jesus today is to listen for the Master’s voice in the middle of competing voices demanding our attention, conflicting noises assaulting our senses and loud dissonant messages challenging our beliefs, values and loyalties. What voice are we choosing to hear?

In the midst of all these voices, there is always the voice of the Good Shepherd, the Lord speaking to us through his Word, through his Church, and this weekend, through thousands of “virtual” pulpits. The voice of the Good Shepherd calls us to a deeper, more honest, spiritual and productive life, to live with dignity in the image of God in which we were all created. Every day, we are called to conversion, to reorient our life, to experience redemption, forgiveness and new life.

In the middle of this pandemic let us follow the voice of Jesus so that our families may be renewed by living the Gospel wherever we are.

This is not a time for the Gospel to be locked down. This is not a time for our families to be isolated from God. This is the time to listen, to share and to spread the Good News of the Good Shepherd: “I came so that they may have life and have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).
